Vijayawada to Hyderabad Cab — Five Hours on NH65
Vijayawada to Hyderabad is 275 km on NH65 and takes about five hours. It is one of the most comfortable long drives in the south: dual carriageway almost the whole way, steady grades, and none of the ghat sections that slow a hill route. The distance is the easy part of this trip. The part worth planning is which Hyderabad you are going to.
Which Hyderabad are you going to?
Hyderabad is spread out in a way that catches first-time visitors, and the city sprawls far enough that your drop point can add an hour to a five-hour drive. Coming up NH65 you arrive from the east. The airport at Shamshabad sits well south of the city and is reached without entering it. Hitec City and Gachibowli are on the far west side, so a drop there means crossing the whole city. Secunderabad is north, the old city around Charminar is central and slow to reach at almost any hour. Name the area at booking — it is the single most useful thing you can tell us on this route.
Crossing from Andhra Pradesh into Telangana
This is an interstate run. The car crosses from Andhra Pradesh into Telangana partway along, and the permits that requires are ours to arrange, not yours — they are handled before the car reaches you and included as a stated charge rather than sprung at the border. Passengers do not need to carry anything special. Tolls on NH65 are included in the fare and the driver will show you what was paid.
Leaving Vijayawada
Pickup is anywhere in the city — Benz Circle, the bus station, a hotel, or a home address. Vijayawada Junction deserves its own mention: it is one of the busiest railway junctions in the country, and a good share of these cabs are booked by people who arrive on a train and want to continue to Hyderabad by road rather than wait for a connection. If that is you, send the train number and the driver waits for the actual arrival rather than the timetable.
Suryapet, Nalgonda and the halfway mark
Once the highway crosses into Telangana it runs through Suryapet and past Nalgonda. Suryapet sits close enough to the midpoint to be the natural break, and the highway restaurants there are the busy, reliable sort that a road this well travelled produces. On a five-hour run one proper stop is usually enough; tell the driver if you would rather push straight through.
Catching a flight from Shamshabad
If the trip ends at the airport, work backwards generously. Five hours of driving plus the airport approach plus check-in means leaving Vijayawada around eight hours before departure for an international flight, less for a domestic one. Early-morning departures are the common case here and a night run handles them well — the road is quiet and the arrival misses the morning build-up entirely.
Medical and college travel to Hyderabad
A large share of these bookings are not business trips at all. Hyderabad is the referral centre for this whole stretch of Andhra, and families travelling for treatment, second opinions or a discharge make up a steady part of the traffic on this corridor — as do parents running between Vijayawada and the colleges around Gachibowli. Both want the same things from a cab and neither is well served by a timetable: a car that waits, room for more luggage than a weekend needs, and a driver who does not rush the loading. If that is the trip, say so when you book and we will send accordingly.
Cab, train or bus
The trains on this corridor are frequent and fast, and for a single traveller going city centre to city centre they are hard to beat on price. A cab wins on three things: door to door with no transfers, luggage that does not have to be carried, and a departure time you choose rather than one the timetable chooses. For a family, or for anyone whose destination is not near a station, the arithmetic usually favours the car.
