Neyveli to Bangalore Taxi — 339 km Across the Border into Karnataka
From Neyveli to Bangalore is about 339 km by road, and the drive takes 6 to 7 hours depending on how heavy the traffic is once you reach Hosur and the city. It is one of the most common long trips out of the township: sons and daughters of NLC employees working in Bangalore’s IT parks, students heading back to college after holidays, parents going to stay with grandchildren, and travellers catching a flight from Kempegowda International Airport. A one-way drop means the car takes you to the exact address and returns; you pay for one direction.
The border, the permit and your ID
This trip crosses from Tamil Nadu into Karnataka just after Hosur, at Attibele. A taxi from Tamil Nadu needs an inter-state permit to enter Karnataka. The permit is paid at actuals, in the same way as tolls and parking, and is not part of the fare in the table, which pays for the car, the driver, fuel and the driver bata. A night allowance applies if the car runs between 10 PM and 6 AM. Carry a government photo ID for each adult; checks at the border are usually brief, but it is better to have them ready.
Which way the driver goes
Most drivers head north-west from Neyveli through Panruti and take the cross-country road via Tiruvannamalai and Chengam to Krishnagiri, where it joins the main Chennai–Bangalore highway towards Hosur. That road passes close to Thirukovilur, our home base, so our drivers know it well. The other option is to go west by Kallakurichi and Salem and then north through Dharmapuri to Krishnagiri, which is sometimes smoother when there is work on the Tiruvannamalai road. Both meet at Krishnagiri, and from there it is a straight highway run to Hosur, the border and the city.
Picking you up in and around Neyveli
Give us your block number and we will be at the door of your quarters, whatever the hour. If you have come home for the weekend and are staying with family in Vadalur, Virudhachalam or Cuddalore, the pickup can be there instead. Students often have more luggage on the trip back to college than they expected; tell us about suitcases, a bicycle or a box of home food so we can send the right car.
Timing the drive around Bangalore traffic
The open highway is rarely the problem on this route; the last hour is. Hosur Road through Electronic City and towards Silk Board junction can slow to a crawl during office hours. A start at around 5 or 6 AM usually gets you into the city before the worst of the morning rush; leaving Neyveli after lunch tends to land you in the evening peak. If you are flying out, remember that the airport is at Devanahalli, well north of the city, so allow an extra hour or more beyond the city centre and keep a margin for traffic.
Halts between Neyveli and Bangalore
On the Tiruvannamalai route, the temple town is a natural first halt for breakfast; during Karthigai Deepam in November–December the town is packed and the driver may route around it. Krishnagiri is known for its mango orchards, and roadside stalls sell fruit in season (around April to June). Hosur, just before the border, is the last easy stop for tea and restrooms before the city.
Where we drop in Bangalore
We drop anywhere in the city. The most frequent addresses on this route are:
- Electronic City and the IT parks along Hosur Road, closest to the Tamil Nadu side.
- Whitefield, Marathahalli and the Outer Ring Road offices and apartments.
- Koramangala, HSR Layout, BTM Layout and Jayanagar in the south.
- Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli.
- KSR Bengaluru City railway station and the Majestic bus station area.
- College hostels and PG accommodation across the city.
Share a map pin with the driver, especially for apartment complexes with several gates.
Taxi, bus or train?
Overnight buses to Bangalore run from the bigger towns near Neyveli, and they are the cheapest option for one person. The train generally means changing at Villupuram or going via Chennai. The taxi wins when several people are travelling, when there is heavy luggage, when an elder needs a comfortable seat and stops, or when you need to reach a specific address or flight time. Students moving into a new hostel and parents carrying a few months of home supplies tend to choose the car.
Which car to take
A sedan suits up to four people with normal bags. Students moving with trunks, or families with elders and a lot of luggage, are better off in an Ertiga-type SUV or an Innova Crysta. For groups of eight or more, ask us about a Tempo Traveller.
What the fare includes
The fare covers the car, the driver, fuel and the driver bata for the full 339 Kms. Tolls, any inter-state permit, parking, the hill charge where the road climbs a ghat, and a night allowance for driving between 10 PM and 6 AM are extra, paid at actuals, and each is listed beside the fare before you book.
Why book with Raja Drop Taxi
You pay for the one-way distance on a drop booking rather than a forced round trip, pickup is available at your home, office, the railway station or the bus stand, and every car is checked before it goes out on the road.
