Cuddalore to Bangalore Taxi — 332 km Across the Plateau into Karnataka
From the coast at Cuddalore to Bengaluru is 332 km, a drive of 6–7 hours by one-way taxi before city traffic is counted. The people who book it are mostly heading to work or study: engineers and technicians moving between the SIPCOT estate, Neyveli and jobs in Bengaluru, students joining colleges there, families relocating with a car full of luggage, and travellers who need to reach Kempegowda International Airport for a flight. It is an inter-state trip, so a couple of practical points matter more here than on runs inside Tamil Nadu.
The inter-state part, in plain terms
The car crosses from Tamil Nadu into Karnataka just past Hosur, near Attibele. A taxi registered in Tamil Nadu needs an inter-state permit for Karnataka, and that permit is extra, paid at actuals, as are the tolls on the highway and any parking. If part of the drive falls between 10 PM and 6 AM, a night allowance applies as well. The fare table on this page shows the car, driver, fuel and driver bata; everything in this paragraph is on top of it.
Carry an original photo ID for every adult. Checks at the border are routine but they do happen, and someone shifting house should keep invoices or a list for any new electronics in the boot.
Leaving Cuddalore
For this route the car heads inland, so the easiest pickups are on the western and northern sides of town: Thirupapuliyur, the Manjakuppam offices and the stretch out towards Thiruvanthipuram. We collect from the Old Town and the port area too, just allow a few more minutes through the centre. If someone is coming in by train before the long drive, the driver can wait at Thirupapuliyur or Cuddalore Port Junction station; the main bus stand is another common meeting point.
Panruti, known for its jackfruit and cashew, lies on the way out, so a second passenger can be picked up there without a detour. A pickup from Neyveli township can also be added to the booking if you tell us the address in advance.
The route through the interior
After Panruti, the usual line heads north-west towards Tiruvannamalai (through Thirukovilur or via Villupuram, depending on the state of the roads), then on to Chengam and across the dry, rocky country of Krishnagiri district. At Krishnagiri the road meets the main highway from the north-east and runs past Hosur and the border into Bengaluru. The alternative is to go north to the Chennai–Bengaluru highway near Vellore; it is a wider road but longer, and drivers use it mainly when there is a block on the interior roads.
Two timing cautions. On full-moon days Tiruvannamalai is crowded with pilgrims walking the Girivalam path around Arunachala, and during the Karthigai Deepam festival in November–December the town is packed for days. The driver will skirt the town on those dates, or you can plan a darshan at the Annamalaiyar temple as a deliberate stop.
When to set off
The single biggest variable is Bengaluru traffic, not the highway. Leaving Cuddalore around 5 AM usually brings you through Hosur before the late-morning build-up and into the southern parts of the city by early afternoon. A start after 10 AM tends to meet the evening rush on Hosur Road and around Silk Board, which can add well over an hour. For a flight, work backwards from the airport: it is at Devanahalli, on the far northern side, so the city crossing alone takes a good while.
Breaks fall naturally at Tiruvannamalai or Chengam for breakfast and at Krishnagiri, a town known for its mangoes, for lunch or tea. Highway food courts near Krishnagiri and Hosur have clean washrooms, which matters with children and elders.
Drop points in Bengaluru
Coming in from Hosur, the first areas are Electronic City and Bommanahalli, then Koramangala, HSR Layout and BTM Layout. Whitefield and the Outer Ring Road tech parks, Majestic with the Kempegowda bus station and KSR Bengaluru City railway station, and the airport are all served; just give the exact address or terminal so the driver can plan the cross-city leg. Hostels and paying-guest homes in the southern suburbs are a frequent drop for students.
Taxi, overnight bus or train
Overnight buses from the Cuddalore and Puducherry side are the cheaper choice for one person with a single bag, and arrive early in the morning. Train connections usually involve a change at Villupuram or Katpadi. A taxi earns its place when you are carrying a lot (a sedan boot takes two large suitcases; an SUV or Innova Crysta takes a household’s worth with the third row folded), travelling with elders, or needing to arrive at a particular door or the airport at a particular hour. The same driver stays for the whole trip.
What the fare includes
The fare covers the car, the driver, fuel and the driver bata for the full 332 Kms. Tolls, any inter-state permit, parking, the hill charge where the road climbs a ghat, and a night allowance for driving between 10 PM and 6 AM are extra, paid at actuals, and each is listed beside the fare before you book.
Why book with Raja Drop Taxi
You pay for the one-way distance on a drop booking rather than a forced round trip, pickup is available at your home, office, the railway station or the bus stand, and every car is checked before it goes out on the road. Billing is itemised, so the fare, tolls and any extras are clear before you confirm.
