Erode to Cuddalore Taxi — 278 km from the Kongu Country to the Coast
The drive from Erode to Cuddalore covers about 278 km and takes 5–6 hours. It is a working route more than a holiday one: engineers and technicians joining the chemical plants at SIPCOT Cuddalore, families of people employed at Neyveli, students heading to colleges on the coast, and households moving between the two districts. It also suits anyone headed for Chidambaram or Pichavaram, since Cuddalore is the gateway to that stretch.
Pickups across Erode district
A good number of our Erode-district passengers don’t live in the city itself. We regularly collect from Perundurai and its SIPCOT industrial estate, from Gobichettipalayam, Bhavani and Kumarapalayam, from the handloom town of Chennimalai, and from Kodumudi on the Kaveri. If you are in the city, we come to your door or to the railway junction or central bus stand. Moving house or carrying tools and equipment? Tell us in advance so we can send an SUV or Innova Crysta with room for the luggage.
How the drive goes
The car crosses the Kaveri between Bhavani and Kumarapalayam and joins the national highway towards Sankagiri and Salem. After Salem the road turns east along the highway to Ulundurpet, passing Attur, Thalaivasal and the Kallakurichi area, with the Kalvarayan hills on the left for part of the way. From Ulundurpet the last part runs towards the coast through the cashew and jackfruit country around Panruti and Neyveli, before entering Cuddalore.
The highway between Salem and Ulundurpet is the long, steady middle of the trip. Salem and Attur make sensible tea breaks, and Ulundurpet is a common lunch stop for traffic coming in from the west. In summer, the Panruti area sells jackfruit by the roadside, which many passengers pick up to take home.
Where you can be dropped in Cuddalore
Cuddalore is spread out, so tell us the exact stop. Common drops are the Old Town and the port side, Manjakuppam with the district offices, Thirupadiripuliyur in the north of the town, the SIPCOT industrial area on the Chidambaram road, and Cuddalore Port Junction or Thirupadiripuliyur railway stations. Hospital drops and hostel drops for students are routine for us.
Temples, beach and history near Cuddalore
If you have time at the end of the trip, the town has more to see than its industries suggest. The Padaleeswarar temple at Thirupadiripuliyur is an old Shiva shrine celebrated in Tevaram hymns. The Devanathaswamy temple at Thiruvanthipuram, on the edge of the town, is one of the 108 Divya Desams and a favourite place for weddings. Silver Beach is the town’s seafront, and the remains of Fort St. David recall the British East India Company’s time on this coast.
A short drive south takes you to Chidambaram and the Nataraja temple, and on to the mangrove backwaters of Pichavaram, where boats go through the narrow channels. Inland, Vadalur draws large crowds on Thai Poosam (January–February) for the light darshan at the Sathya Gnana Sabha founded by Ramalinga Swamigal.
Season, weather and timing
Cuddalore lies on a coast that takes the northeast monsoon between October and December, and cyclones have hit this district more than once. If a storm warning is out, we will advise you before departure and help you shift the date. March to June is hot and humid on the coast, so a morning start gets you there before the worst of the afternoon heat. Masi Magam (February–March) brings temple processions down to the sea along this coast and heavier traffic near the beach.
A 6 AM start from Erode usually means arriving in Cuddalore by about noon. If you need to reach for a factory shift or a joining date, tell us the reporting time and we will plan backwards from it.
Comparing taxi, bus and rail
There is no fast direct train between Erode and Cuddalore; rail journeys generally mean a change, and buses usually need a change at Salem or Villupuram. For a single traveller with a backpack, that is workable. For a family, for anyone moving with heavy luggage, or for someone who has to reach a plant gate at a fixed time, a car from your door is easier. The car, driver, fuel and driver bata are in the fare shown in the table; tolls, parking and night driving between 10 PM and 6 AM are paid separately at actuals.
What the fare includes
The fare covers the car, the driver, fuel and the driver bata for the full 278 Kms. Tolls, any inter-state permit, parking, the hill charge where the road climbs a ghat, and a night allowance for driving between 10 PM and 6 AM are extra, paid at actuals, and each is listed beside the fare before you book.
Why book with Raja Drop Taxi
